electronic artist and frequent panda bear collaborator scott mou is the first person to admit that his debut album end times, released under the moniker queens a few weeks ago, isn’t quite what people expect. “when dial records asked me to do it, i was really shocked and very humbled—and i thought the label would expect something different—more techno, more house, more classic minimalist,” recalls mou. what he gave them was of another mood entirely.

Yoshi Wada

yoshimasa "yoshi" wada is a japanese sound installation artist and musician living in the united states. he lived in new york for many years but now lives in san francisco, california. born in japan, wada joined the fluxus movement in 1968 after meeting george maciunas. he also studied with the north indian vocalist pandit pran nath. wada's works often incorporate the use of drone and are usually performed at very high volume, allowing for the overtones within the sound to be heard very clearly.

Jefre Cantu-Ledesma

born and raised in texas, jefre cantu-ledesma delved into abstract music around the same time he was studying sculpture and visual arts in san francisco in the mid-'90s. developing an ambient approach to the spacy indie rock and slowcore of the time, cantu-ledesma co-founded the highly influential instrumental act tarentel as well as working with experimental rock trio the alps and running the well-respected drone/ambient label root strata.

seattle producer and songwriter benoît pioulard (aka thomas meluch) has been following his very own path through the calm scenery of ambient, shoegaze and electronica for over ten years now. following the release of "sonnet", his fifth lp for portland’s kranky label just a few months ago, meluch returns to morr music with four shimmeringly beautiful ambient tracks.

Secret Boyfriend

as a kid, i was always kind of freaked out," says ryan martin. the 31-year-old carrboro resident and musician issues eclectic outsider music on his hot releases label and creates his own as secret boyfriend. right now, sitting under an oak tree outside the looking glass cafe, he's trying to explain its origins and the childhood of paranormal experiences that have shaped his aesthetic.

Roy Montgomery

roy montgomery grew up in christchurch new zealand; starting his first band, the pin group, who released the first single on the flying nun label in 1981.  when the band broke up montgomery went to college where he dabbled in the theater while studying, developing an interest in soundtrack work that he would refine later in his career.
